Statistics on building and dwelling production describe the volume of construction subject to building permits from the view of the end product. The volume index of newbuilding describes changes in value at constant prices of newbuilding compared with the base year of the index. The data are collected from various registers and published monthly.

According to Statistics Finland, in December to February, building permits for newbuilding were granted for a total of 7.0 million cubic metres, 17.3 per cent less than one year ago. Building permits for residential building construction were granted for 2.5 million cubic metres, which was 19.8 per cent less than one year previously. Especially the cubic volume granted for the construction of blocks of flats fell considerably, by 32.5 per cent. The cubic volume of other than residential building construction went down by 15.9 per cent. Building permits for 8,087 dwellings were granted over the period, 19 per cent less than one year previously.
